Facebook Page SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE PUBLIC NOTICE FOR ELECTRONIC PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD MEETING Superintendent Kevin Macina April 9, 2020 Dear Families and Community Members: We hope this communication finds you, your family, and kids safe and healthy. As we have been doing, this letter is to inform of next steps for BCPS. Things continue to change on a daily basis, and this letter gives direction on our planning for now and into the future. As stated yesterday by Governor Whitmer, the shelter in place has been extended until April 30. With this announcement, our schools and offices will continue to be closed, and we will continue to work remotely. Once the shelter in place is lifted, we will allow parents back into the buildings to gather non-essential items. If there is an absolute need for something, please contact your building principal. We have updated our FAQ page on our website with more specific information. Over the next few days you will receive detailed information regarding the BCPS Distance Learning Plan. Laura Zeinstra, Curriculum Director, principals, teachers, and staff have all done an amazing job preparing for remote learning for your child to finish the school year. The information will include a special website that parents and students can access to launch them to classes and learning content specific to them. Each grade level is unique, and the Distance Learning Plan addresses those needs. Our Distance Learning will begin the week of April 13, and you will receive the information this weekend so that you and your child can prepare. As a district and community, we continue to serve families who require food and other essentials. We have partnered with Hand 2 Hand and Buist Ministries to support these necessities. We know that these needs continue to grow as the shelter in place has been extended. Please reach out to our staff and check our website for updates and information to help meet these requirements. As mentioned in previous communications, we continue to plan for when our students return to school. One crucial area is the capacity that BCPS is currently at and the growth that continues in our community. As the State of Michigan moves to absentee voting for our May 5 bond proposal , over the next few weeks, we will continue to provide updates through social media, our website, and other communication to assist with understanding this important future planning for BC. Linked to this letter is a video that explains the proposal in greater detail. If you have specific questions on this 5-year plan and district needs, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly. I cannot say thank you enough and how grateful I am for this community. I have seen so much care and support over the last few weeks for so many families. As we move into the extended Shelter in Place Order, please reach out if you need support.
